Work in an IT company and you will realize that every software product or service that is rolled out in the market reflects the hard work of a number of teams. As a Development Team Lead, I would like to build awareness around this topic and stress on the fact that every team plays a crucial role in determining the success of a company.

Each week, I will talk about one crucial team:

Sales

Customer success

Marketing

Accounting

Onboarding

Support

Product

Operations

Development

So, this week, I will like to start with the Sales Team.

Sales — 1, Development — 0.5

Truth be told, when I just stepped into the industry, I thought that developers are what define an IT company and that they played the most important role in the success of a product. However, it was later that the picture started getting clear, and that’s when I started realizing that the sales team is an essential pillar of an organization.

Early on in my career, my manager once shared his experience with me. He told me that he once had his startup wherein they used to build great products. I could truly see the spark in his eyes as he was telling his story. He then revealed that his startup failed and products failed to gain any traction as they didn’t have a sales team to support their back.

This is when my respect for the sales team started growing. Now when I read online that before starting development, make sure your product is in the hands of the sales team to build interest among the target audiences — I feel that they are correct.

As a developer, you might feel that the success of a product is in your hands. Yes, it is, but a development team will fail to survive if they do not have a sales team to bring enough sales. Even in the current crisis, I can vouch for the fact that the sales team is working hard to sell projects, and is contributing, directly or indirectly, in saving our jobs.

Everyday Struggles of a Sales Team

Here are just a few of various struggles that a sales team deals with:

· Finding qualified leads

· Getting an edge over competitors

· Following up with prospects

· Maintaining customer relationship post-sell

· Keeping themselves inspired

Well, yes, I, along with my team, acknowledge all of them and want to extend my heartiest thanks to the sales team of Asset Panda. We promise to provide you with the best output as far as development is concerned, and let’s keep rocking!
